“We always felt that cycling was an extension of fashion,” said Michael Salvatore, CEO of Bowery Lane Bicycles.
The Fashion Center concurs, collaborating with the New York-based cycling company and inviting top designers to refashion a fleet of 30 bicycles for the “Tour de Fashion” bike-sharing program during New York Fashion Week.
Participating designers include Prabal Gurung, Nanette Lepore, Isaac Mizrahi, Elie Tahari, Rebecca Taylor, Diane von Furstenberg, and more.
At a time where eco-everything is chic, the program can’t come at a better moment. Throw New York and fashion into the mix, and you’ve got a formula that’s destined to win.
And guess what? These designer bikes are more accessible than you think.
From Sept. 8 to 15, you can find them at the plazas along Broadway in New York City. The rides are free, but you do need to put down a security deposit.
In addition to designer tags, the bikes also come with maps that show you where to spin around safely.
Keep fit. Look chic. That’s just brill.
